Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

Rating: ***

Review: There's really only enough room in my heart for one movie about an understated, funny, misfit kid who wears dorky glasses. That, my friends, is a little film called Rushmore. I suppose that it's possible that the movie Napoleon Dynamite and I might have the occasional affair when Rushmore's out of town or something.

This is a quirky little movie, but it knows it's quirky. Everything in the film is built on this knowledge. A lot of it is funny, but I didn't laugh as much as I expected to laugh. I didn't want to run right back out and see it again. I do recommend it because there's a lot of good stuff here, but Rushmore it's not.

Definitely no Rushmore but who can resist the powers of Lafawnda?
I demand a spin off feature about that woman. Demand!

I really wish I had liked Napoleon Dynamite better too. Although I think you liked it more than I did - I'd give it two stars.

But I do agree with Rushmore's greatness. How about that next movie from Wes Anderson? I'm really excited.
Ooh. I know. I've been disappointed a lot by movies this year, but I don't think Wes could ever let me down. The Life Aquatic will be awesome.
Whatever! Napoleon was so much funnier than Rushmore!
(I don't even remember Rushmore, but since I still laugh when I think about Napoleon, it has to be funnier!)
"Come on Tina, you fat lard. Eat the food!" Falls off chair laughing. My friend Jamie and I pass notes in class with Napoleon quotes and see who can resist laughing the most. It is extremely difficult.
Watch Rushmore again. I love it more with each viewing. The range of emotion in Rushmore is much greater than Napoleon Dynamite. The characters are more fleshed out, and the story is more complex. It's still incredibly funny, and the music is fantastic.

I liked Napoleon, but the film pales in comparison to Rushmore. Wes Anderson is a genius.
I'll have to watch Rushmore again. I really don't even remember it.
