Without a Paddle (2004)
Rating: **
Review: For a comedy, this movie starts off on a down note. A guy dies, and his friends reunite for the funeral. A million laughs! Then they decide to take the trip the dead friend always wanted them to take. They leave their adult lives behind for a little while to go on an 80s-esque treasure hunt. Of course, everything goes wrong. They lose their boat, food, and clothing. There's a bear, which leads to an absolutely terrible moment for cinema in which Seth Green eats raw meat. There are crazy, shot-gun toting, weed growing hicks that want them dead. Most of this is not very funny, especially the annoying hicks. On the bright side, Matthew Lillard is really likable and the film has surprising heart.
